<a href=""></a>

O'ahu is an island that is congested with lots of traffic caused by too many cars. If you're visiting Honolulu, take the bus. You will enjoy your trip, and have less stress b/c you will have the freedom that comes with public transit! Plus parking is rather cumbersome throughout O'ahu. The bus will pick you up at the airport and take you all around the island!! Best of all, you will experience the true multiculturalism of Hawai'i by taking The Bus. Subtly eavesdrop and observe the cultural nuances of Hawai'i's people. Hawai'i is a special place, and the people are responsible for making it so. Unfortunately rampant development, greed, and investment by outside forces are challenging the cultural fabric of Hawai'i. But local people are very resilient, despite the mass exodus of former residents to cheaper locales, such as Nevada, California, Utah, Oregon, Washington, etc. Experience the real Hawai'i and take the bus. Go to Bishop Museum and 'Iolani Palace. Talk to local people and learn about the history of Hawai'i.

Oahu has tons of buses--- you can get nearly everywhere from the buses with just a bit of walking added. Taxi's are expensive.
But if you go to the outer islands, you'll need to rent a car. Buses there are few and far between.

Yes, they have the best bus system in the United States. You can go anywhere you want to on the bus.

Public transportation is great!! Buy a four-day Discovery bus pass at any ABC store! Taxis are very expensive!! The bus pass is only $20.00 and you can use it for four consecutive days!!

<a href=""></a>

It depends on what you want to do. The first time I went to Honolulu as an adult, I was there for 10 days and only rented a car on one of those days. It is fun to drive around the island and see things outside of Honolulu/Waikiki, but I wouldn't think you would need a car for much longer than a day or two, quite honestly. Waikiki is full of clubs, bars, restaurants, malls, etc. and Waikiki Beach is a lot of fun! Tons of stuff to do there and you can walk to everything. If you want to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor, a good luau, etc., you can take The Bus. I know for a fact that the luau at Paradise Cove has private bus transportation and they will pick you up at your hotel (or one close by) to take you out to Ko 'Olina for the event.

Parking at most Waikiki hotels is expensive ($9 or more per day) and the spaces are really small and limited. Not everyone who stays at the hotel will have a guaranteed parking space. I really don't think you'll need a car, but play it by ear and see what happens when you get there. You don't want to be rushing around seeing so much stuff that you lose the beauty of the island! Besides, you will want to just sit and relax on the beach some of the time, won't you? Don't need a car for that!

Aloha :)

They have a pretty good bus system. You will have to do some walking as well and out of town the frequency of the buses is a lot lower.

i don't recommend a moped if you are traveling with other people.
Honolulu isn't like New york city where there is public transportation and you don't need a car.
You can't travel around without a car. A taxi or a bus would be more expensive.

yes, rent a mopped, its fun and cheap! There are many GREAT TAXI Services, in Waikiki every where you look is a taxi. But the Bus system is highly recommended, and cheap a dollar you can ride the bus around Hawaii with free transfers...ENJOY, no driving is necessary.
